First Place Award winner in FCA Toronto Chapter's, Show-Up Show!
"The Wilds" was inspired by the land in Northwestern Ontario. The Canadian Shield's rocks are laid bare over seasons of winter ice and summer wave action. Exploring by kayak, the view from the water is often this continual rugged shoreline.
Much of this work was accomplished using a palette knife, adding dimension and texture. Mark making was employed as well, a technique mainly used in oil painting, by scratching into the impasto paint rather than using a brush, and adding organic details.

The Canadian wild places are Jennifer Caie's subjects in painting. Her artwork is created as a direct result of time spent in Ontario's wilderness. She also finds a deep connection while hiking the Canadian coastal regions. “Really anything that reveals the effect of wind on the land."
