Granville Island in the Winter. The painting was a study in realism. I wanted to emphasise the detail in the broken cement walkway, the mildew in the shadows and yet show the visiting tourist enjoying this beautiful public space. I had to go back to the original place many times and re-photograph the details that did not appear in the first photos. The original photo did not show any of the details in the shadows or dark portion of the image. Items such as bridge rivets, bridge railing & signage, under store awnings, cement truck axles and so on.
