There is a poem always in my head -- "The Rainy Day" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. One line stood out for this piece, "Thy fate is the common fate of all."
Having worked as a court reporter and broadcast closed captioner for 30 years, I wanted to use my shorthand notes in my artwork. The letters in the lower left is shorthand for "thy fate is."
I am thrilled with the result using collage.

Encaustic wax is a perfect fit for my inquisitive nature. I am as enamoured with the glassy smooth surfaces as I am with the textural capabilities of wax, and the ability to transform a painting into something sculptural is a constant source of wonder and delight.
