Out of the Blue, is inspired by the complexity of a tidal pool. An abstraction, exploring the power, inspiration and reflective quality of this watery world, where I was looking to find a sense of floating, falling into this space. I began this piece building it by hand with no paintbrushes or knives on wet canvas and manipulating the paint by washing it off, where experimentation and chance played an important role. The last layer includes loose gestures using copper patinas, applied with a large pallet knife creating shapes and movement. The result is soothing but with an underlying tension,
