About the Artwork
Over 3,000 Japanese Canadian women, children and tuberculosis patients were
unjustly detained at the Livestock Building, Hastings Park under traumatic and deplorable conditions between March 1942 - March 1943. The building was a marshalling site where dispossessed Canadian Japanese were detained prior to their subsequent internment at camps in the interior where they were held until the end of the war.
