The arbutus tree, especially this grouping found along the ridge in Gowlland Tod Park, continually amaze me with the variety of shapes, foreshortening/perspective of the twisting branches as well as the changing colours in the bark. These trees are always catching my eye and after a spell of painting other subjects I always seem to gravitate back to painting the arbutus tree. Hiking in the places that they can be found as well as the trees themselves, lit up by the light of the setting sun, always feed my soul.
