This painting began as a fleeting view from the highway approaching Montréal after visiting family in Québec City for the holidays. Filled with anticipation of a new year and nearing our destination, I was struck by the drama of the sky pressing low over the hills, and the quiet infrastructure that defines Québec: telephone poles, fences, the thin line of road. I’m interested in these transitional spaces, neither wilderness nor city, but the in-between. Places we move through without stopping.
