Just outside the city, I had to stop to take in this abandoned homestead. I wonder who once lived there. This painting is a story that brings up questions that it perhaps can't answer. What makes the reference photo so enticing to paint over and over is the energy of the foreground grasses and the little broken houses against the expansive prairie sky and the emotions it evokes.
