I have always been amazed by the industrious nature of these quiet unassuming creatures. Proficient swimmers and master builders these large semiaquatic mammals fashion the environment to suit their own needs. In doing so beavers create wetland ecosystems that benefit a variety of plants and animals. The beaver is thought to be a keystone species. Thankfully this beautiful creature did not succumb to extinction during the fur trade.
My hope is that my painting will inspire one to take pause and appreciate the wonder and calmness of these beautiful animals and gain appreciation for their work ethic, “busy as a beaver”.
