This past summer, I was a participant in an artist residency in Bargemon, which is a medieval village in the south of France. As my husband and I gathered with artists and friends for a late dinner on a Saturday night, some of the locals told us that the apartment we had rented had previously been a prison in the 14th century. It was somewhat chilling to hear these tales but as we sat listening to the many ghost stories, we were fascinated and a little spooked because everyone had already experienced some very odd and unusual paranormal activities.
