About the Artwork
During a backpacking trip to the Tonquin Valley of Jasper National Park we were lucky to encounter a Mountain Caribou bull.Caribou populations have dropped dramatically in the park over the past decades and they are in danger of disappearing. Shortly after our trip, JNP staff captured the remaining female caribou and placed them in a captive breeding centre with the goal of one day releasing their calves back in to the wild. I chose to portray the bull looking for mates against the dramatic backdrop of the Rampart Range.
