A Place to Rest
My inspiration for this sculpture was a butterfly that landed on my hand while I was gardening and rested there happily for some time.
I am drawn to sculpting with natural materials, mainly clay, wood and metals. I love that something of beauty can be created from a lump of clay or random piece of wood or metal simply by using one’s hands, simple tools and heat.
This sculpture is part of a series of various hand positions examining the beauty and expressive language particular to the human hand.
Just a slight tip of a finger or tilt of the hand can portray a completely new and magical meaning.
