The Sybil
In Ancient Greece a Sibyl was a prophetess or oracle believed to able to foretell the future. This painting shows one version of Self stopped in Time through the reel of celluloid images that wrap around a deep cradle canvas board.
Who were we? Who are we? Who will we become? The numbering at the bottom shows this Being is version #4, while the next frame will be version # 6. Number 5 would have been there, but had we made a different choice. The photograph is old and weathered as we all will become as we move forward to the next and the next.

Bordering between expressionism and realism Copeman's work is also reflective of what is revealed in her dreams. Her work tends to be intuitive rather than conceptual.
