A full moon is shown shining down on Vancouvers Coal Harbour, in 1888, in this marine painting. The view is looking up Burrard Inlet with Hastings Mill in the distance, while small jettys and docks line the shore. Ships rest at anchor awaiting a cargo of perhaps timber, while coastal trading schooners and salmon skiffs lay alongside their moorings. I’ve also included an element of human activity. Who is in the small boat and why are they coming ashore at the pier in the foreground? That is best left to the viewers imagination.
