‘God of Discernment’ is part of my Divine Insider series. I found that when I focused on the area between the chin and just above the eyebrows, the features become iconic and another 'self' emerges. A Divine Self. This is the 'god' or spirit of discernment. Are these portraits? Yes and no. My friends' faces are the starting point for an investigation into the mystery of what it is to be human. They are themselves and they are the More of themselves.

"I paint to get at the essence of my subject, to understand its mystery. I want to create the feeling one has, when light suddenly hits a surface and there is a moment of illumination. I wish to engage the viewer in this sense of mystery, these apparitions of light."
