Fungi are one of Earth’s finest growth champions. They grow in soil, on decaying wood in forests, on trees, in grasslands and even deserts. They love dark, moist places like caves, water covered rocks and plants, damp basements, and even human toe nails! Naturalists were recently surprised seeing a mushroom sprouting on a gold-backed frog! These particular fungi were growing on a large tree in the Burnaby Lake area. Their calypso-like skirts make me think of a party, hence the name Fungal Fiesta.
