A Stand of Trees No.3 depicts a spot along the Railway Trail located along the West side of Hayward Lake in Mission, BC. I first rendered a small full-colour study of this scene before enlarging it to 16x20-inches. I work in a mixed medium of creating a rough drawing, then applying thin washes of acrylics before mixing in inks. The process of paint and inks are repeated until I achieve the desired effects. This is not a quick rendering style.
I first ventured into this park when I was 14 years old and will still walk along the graveled trails looking for scenes to paint. I have many memories here. It is a unique place with remnants of old, disintegrating train tressels. There are many potential paintings waiting to be discovered here. Just be mindful of the bears with their cubs that also frequent the trail and also be wary of potential mudslides during the rainy season although these unsafe locations are well noted with posted signage.
