This kingfisher is seen entering the waters after it’s prey. Kingfishers dive into the waters all around our Haida Gwaii coastlines. But like the Great Eagles they only catch prey about 25% of the time and often less. So that means they are diving all the time. Persistence fills the belly in the food fishing world. I wanted to paint this more abstractly by having all the bubbles in the water from the impact of this small bird in the water. Its quite the feat for these birds to be able to fly with wet feathers or maybe they hardly get wet. This little bird is as much terrestrial and aquatic flying between two mediums and that makes them interesting. They are certainly not long in the water unlike ducks so they have to see their pray before they dive. They are a marvel to watch from our boat in the marina.
