This painting was inspired while kayaking in a remote location, Lake of the Woods region, Northwestern Ontario. The tangle of plants is described in fluid acrylic brushstrokes, and layers of transparent colour. A quiet, shallow scene came into view, as we rounded a great high wall of rock, lifting out of the water just as high as it plunged into the depths. The contrast of the scene was intriguing. I chose this width of canvas to capture the relationship of these shoreline forms, and their need to adapt as difficulties arise.
