Humans are social beings. We need each other for all kinds of reasons. When facing danger, we have often turned to the maxim, “Safety in numbers.” We think that being part of a large group of people reduces an individual’s risk of becoming a victim of an accident, attack, or other bad event. But not so, not during this current and horrible time of COVID19. The exact opposite is true! We can’t huddle together in each other’s homes, can’t participate in favourite group activities whether in sports, dances, concerts, or libraries. Many of us can't even go to work or school. "Social distancing" has become part of our everyday language and existence. Right now there is NO SAFETY IN NUMBERS.
