About the Artwork
This piece is part of an ongoing body of work investigating the topic of fertility. In Greek Mythology, Priupus was a minor fertility god - son of Aphrodite and relates to male fertility. In the fields of ancient Greece, wooden statues of his likeness were placed in the fields to deter thieves. These are thought to be a precursor to what we would consider a more modern scarecrow of today.
