Painting 'en plein air' in an approaching storm gives complexity, richness and
emphasis to the drama of this moment on a hillside near my home. The black ink and paper shape were chosen to create a composition with depth and tonal variation. Other interpretations can be imagined in this painting, such as a Dieppe battlefield, or a desolate broken farmland.
