About the Artwork
Each year, I volunteer to teach art at Koeye Camp, a summer camp for kids from the Heiltsuk First Nation. The camp is located in a remote part of the West Coast, a few hours north of Vancouver Island. The trees in this painting stand at the top a cliff overlooking Fitzhugh Sound, and are witness to the many whales and grizzly bears that inhabit this rainforest. This painting is inspired by one of the many evenings I spent watching the sun set through the coastal August haze.
