Sombrio Beach on Vancouver Island is frequented by many local and tourist surfers. The area is open to the Pacific ocean so that it often experiences large tidal waves.
Using a palette knife seemed to be a fitting tool for creating rugged strokes that portray ocean waves crashing against the eroded rocks. The tool also helps to create a feeling of movement and force of ocean waves against resisting rocks.
