This was painted in honour of the Biggs Orca T77A, a 24 year old transient killer whale that frequents the BC coast. T77A is infamous for his playful demeanour that has boaters calling the Marine Animals in Distress hotline frequently. Numerous times he has been seen playing with and intentionally entangling himself in bouys, ropes and other debris. It turns out he is merely having fun and not, in fact, in distress. On the occasion that inspired this painting, the Coast Guard dutifully attended and reported back that no whales were in distress.
