About the Artwork

I started this piece with the intent to convey energy or power. There is pretty much a separate painting below the finished layer as it didn't feel right, and I kept staring at it, trying to have what I wanted to "emerge". Finally I made peace with it. As an emerging artist, abstract painting is difficult. Even for the experienced ones, I would assume, at times - as there is no reference. It has to be instinctive. I hope you feel movement in "Tempest"

Shirley McKell

North Vancouver, British Columbia

Shirley's work hopefully demonstrates what she sees as gorgeous in this world and hopes that it inspires the viewer to look carefully at their surroundings as they navigate their day. She works in oil and has studied with many local artists.

"This is an important time in human kind to observe and protect their world. It is also a time to tone down the consumerism and tread lightly. I hope that my artwork inspires you to acknowledge the beauty around you."
