About the Artwork

Six life-sized figures—three couples dressed in Edwardian attire—engaged in a formal dance. The composition captures a moment of poised movement and social grace characteristic of the early 20th century. Through attention to gesture, proportion, and costume detail, the piece reflects both the refinement of the period and the universal human expression found in rhythm and partnership.

Sheena McCorquodale, AFCA

Qualicum Beach, British Columbia

Ballet and synchronized swimming in Sheena's early years along with fashion design and an abiding love of animals from hamsters to horses inform her art. Spontaneous, lively lines, an appreciation of the human figure and fresh creativity run consistently through her creations.

"I strive to capture the internal dignity and grace of all living things. I enjoy creating the sense of movement and I feel fulfilled when a finished work appears to 'breathe'."
