Cats are magical creatures, revered as gods by ancient Egyptians, and acting as familiars for witches. My muse, Missy, keeps me company in the studio, sleeping on a corner of my art table and looking for birds through the window. But not for the portrait depicted in this painting. She watched Sphinx-like as her image slowly emerged from the paper, eyes following each brush stroke. Then my muse tripled when, once again, Missy was fascinated by the evolution of this painting of her and her portrait. How could she possibly know what I was painting in those early stages of the two works? Here, the pyramid symbolizes ancient Egypt where all orange cats originated, and, perhaps, explains the mystery around our little journey into the twilight zone.
