Inspired by the blue flash during a sunset and Turner's atmospheric paintings. Harmony has both high texture depicting the sea and the shore and the sky is done with soft and gradual transitions of colour and light, effectively conveying a coastal scene's atmospheric mood. The sky is painted in soft blues and peach colours that express the tranquillity of early dawn or the gentle approach of dusk. Below, the sea is depicted with gentle gradations of blues and teals, capturing the reflective nature of the water. My layering painting technique involves layering fine, transparent oil and acrylic paints, creating depth that is both visual and emotional. I use metallic paints and gold leaf to achieve a luminous quality enhancing the light from within and the one reflected. With this painting, I wanted to evoke Harmony which the world is in in dire need right now.

"“Working with texture and layers in my mixed media paintings gives me an opportunity to express nature in an abstract way, to encourage the viewer to be moved by its beauty, and to create a mood that will seduce the eye, soothe the mind, and inspire the spirit.” Monica Gewurz"
