Slowly people have realized that the beautiful Monarch butterfly is threatened by the loss of appropriate habitat, as communities build on green lands, and start to encase concrete and bricks where there used to be wildflowers. To combat this , environmental groups are encouraging the planting of milkweed in gardens and where ever there is room. As well, classrooms, and private citizens are fostering the monarch butterflies and releasing them when they are ready for flight. Because people are banding together to help this magnificent insect, there now is a chance that the Monarch will recover in numbers, but we must continue to do our part.
