This piece depicts the silhouette of a human head—featureless—filled with layers of dark, turbulent color. It embodies the state of my inner world during a season of confusion, pain, and immense suffering.
After surviving brain cancer, my body was transformed by treatment’s side effects—slim and familiar became swollen and unrecognizable. I felt lost, unsure of who I was or why I existed. I dreaded looking in the mirror. The collision of external expectations and internal wounds blurred my identity and dimmed any sense of purpose.
Rather than offering answers, this painting asks the questions I faced: Who am I? What is my value? Is there truly a place for me in this world?
The tangled hues symbolize chaotic thoughts and emotions. Yet within the darkness lies hidden potential—an emerging self waiting patiently to be discovered.
Creating “Who Am I?” was my act of honesty—my first step in confronting these questions and beginning the journey toward meaning.
May this work speak to you: if you find yourself in a fog of uncertainty, don’t give up. Keep searching—your true self is there, waiting to be found.
