The peaceful moment of feeling the sun on one's face, of opening the heart to Nature's' gifts, of all being right in the world is captured in this piece. It is a work meant to bring these feelings to the viewer. Not accidentally, it also echoes the Degas sculpture of "Little Dancer of 14 Years", the sculptor having almost chosen a career in dance. However, this girl is much younger, maybe 5, the age when little children still dance unselfconsciously, which reinforces the sense of utter self-acceptance and tranquillity in the work.
