On a recent trip to the Hebrides (Scotland), I visited the unique Barra airport and successfully got some great photos of a plane landing. Its flight schedule is determined by the tides as its runways are on the coastal flats. My photos reminded me of a painting that I’d seen at the McMichael Gallery that I believe was done by Alex Colville. His painting had quite an impact on me and inspired me to create this scene.
This realistic oil painting began with undercoats and then multiple layers of glazes. To be accurate with the plane, I carefully drew an
