My references for this painting are from photos taken on the many lakes I have canoed in the Canadian shield area of Ontario. I chose to paint this beautiful waterlily using an indirect method with layers of transparent glazing over a grisaille underpainting. This method helps to create the luminosity seen in this flower and as well creates a wonderful range of values to create interest.
