This large-scale oil painting was inspired by a radiant moment in my own garden—a joyful tangle of orange daylilies dancing beside golden, daisy-like Heliopsis blooms. Though we live in the cooler northern climate of Canada, this vibrant pairing transported me to somewhere more tropical, more lush—if only for a moment.
I’ve always loved the wild, romantic nature of English-style gardens, and this piece celebrates that slightly overgrown charm. The brilliant orange of the Daylily commands attention as the star of the composition, while the variegated leaves of the False Sunflower (Heliopsis) add a striking visual rhythm and a hint of the exotic. Their unexpected elegance offers rich texture and pattern, anchoring the composition and lending the piece a unique vitality. At 48 x 60 inches, this painting becomes truly commanding when framed, as shown in select images. It would make a stunning statement in a grand entryway, dining room, an office in need of cheerful sophistication.
