Moving to an acreage, we started raising chickens and have been on a learning curve ever since. I've been painting our chickens since the Covid lockdown started, and I'm feeling ever more intimately connected to them. This Black Australorp is a heritage breed, a great layer, and a pretty "steady eddy" as far as personality goes. While I know it's all projection, she always seems like she's far more pensive than the other more focused, sassy or skittish hens. She is an absolute delight to have around.
