"And This Is My Story" is an acrylic painting on a Denim Fabric with Acrylic Skin and this is the last piece for my feedback loop series titled "From Philippines to Canada. With this art piece, I aim to emphasize the usage of the acrylic skin--The action of peeling off and gluing into a new surface--a synecdoche of a body immigrating into a new place-- another reiteration of myself migrating here in Canda.
In addition, the Denim Fabric is a metaphor of Canada as the new surface; and is also, responding to the notion of the "Canadian Tuxedo". Here I am creating my mark in Canada and acknowledging that through immigration, I am able to do all of these things.
Another metaphor present in the artwork is the text used which is a Filipino word 'imigrasyon' which literally translates to immigration in English language. This represents me as a foreign body in Canada. And in this manner as well, I am able to exhibit part of me, who I am, my culture, my history and my journey!
