About the Artwork
A little tom-boy, awkwardly waiting for a parent to take a picture of her because she almost never wears a dress. It is a hot summer day. The family is attending a special event, perhaps a wedding. She stands barefoot on the burned grass, having kicked off her fancy shoes. Her strong legs show she is more accustomed to movement than stillness. There is roiling energy in the patterns of the landscape, like her, waiting to burst out. Behind her, a colourful wall is made of 'Sweetheart' candies - expressing her vulnerability.
