Joie de vivre is a body of work I started in the midst of this crisis in China in early 2020. Oddly enough my previous body of work had been very monochromatic. I really felt a need to reintroduce the use of color in 2020 as the pandemic hit and have not stopped since. Joie de vivre VII is my attempt to trasmit joy through the use of color, shapes and textures. I hope that for the individual viewing it, the message of hope and joy are transmitted. I have used collaged pieces of a book on hope and joy throughout the piece. Parts of the words show through the canvas in different areas. I will let the painting tell you the rest of the story. It is quite simply my best effort at expressing the immense joy I have for life and the belief that everything will be ok for us in the future. Thank you for taking the time to look at my artwork.

Johanne Brouillette
St-Jerome, Quebec
Johanne Brouillette is an abstract painter who is known for her thick multilayered paintings that hint at the textures and palettes of the Canadian landscape, while allowing open-ended narratives for the viewer to fill in.
"My hope is that my abstract paintings hint at something familiar, yet remain open ended to allow the viewer’s imagination to complete the story."
