About the Artwork
"Urban Matter" depicts the push and pull between preserving tradition and demolishing to make room for the growing population of the city of Beijing. Both are unwilling and unable to compromise as monuments from two different eras become superimposed on one another. In these times - which side should we stand for? To keep a cultural identity alive or to meet the demands of the modernity?
