Essence is defined as the intrinsic nature of something. There is a fragrant, emission in the air which we breath, the essence of the trees.
This piece required me to test my limits. I began with a knife, applying texture to the entire panel, planning the scene, and involving the wood grain at times. Next, pigment dispersion flowed over the texture revealing channels and pockets. Pushing my boundaries, I spattered a multitude of fluid dots, creating a pixelated approach that I had been considering. Finally, as is my practice, carving out negative spaces, with darks or lights.

In my artwork, I aim to convey the magic of the seasons that invites exploration and reflection. The interplay of light and shadow creates a dance that draws the viewer in, evoking a sense of peace and wonder.
