My subject here is the multitude of mosses and plant-life that regenerates under the canopy after a forest fire. This is part of the cycle of a natural forest, not one that has been stripped and replanted. Through mark making, I created the effect of an old forest fire, needled ground, and new growth under surviving trees. I have walked this line between the charred and the green, in Northwestern Ontario's forest.

The Canadian wild places are Jennifer Caie's subjects in painting. Her artwork is created as a direct result of time spent in Ontario's wilderness. She also finds a deep connection while hiking the Canadian coastal regions. “Really anything that reveals the effect of wind on the land."
