Apples often remind me of when I lived on a farm and owned horses. Besides carrots, apples were probably the most common treat we gave them. A favourite book I read to my two young daughters was about 'Macintosh', a Shetland pony. We all loved this book as we had our own loveable, black, Shetland pony named Midnight. When I saw these three Macintosh apples on the kitchen table I loved how yummy they looked. It brought be back in time and thoughts of shining up an apple on the front of my shirt before taking a bite then offerring it to the ponies on my open hand so as not to have a finger mistaken for something edible. I enjoy painting from life and use the alla prima method (painting wet on wet). This oil study is a good example of five types of light. The general light, shadows, mid-tones, accents and reflected light, which is the light bouncing off other objects.
