Inspired by the works of Lawren Harris, Dorothy McCarthy, and Rockwell Kent, I have travelled to remote regions of the planet in order to sketch and paint on site, and to take source photographs for my artworks.
I was struck by this scene’s abstracted composition - how the various shapes reflected each other and worked together to create a captivating arrangement. “On The Rocks” shows the remnants of an iceberg in front of a rising cliff face in Gibbs Fjord, Nunavut and speaks to issues surrounding climate change and the retreat of the polar ice cap.

EDMONTON, Alberta
Donald’s true passion has forever been art. Portraying the links between science/nature and art is central to his being - he seeks to discover the 'architecture' of the natural world and how living things (including humans) ‘fit’ in, thus creating an awareness and greater appreciation of the somewhat 'invisible'.
"I work towards the preservation of wonder, the 'wonder' of nature, and the 'wonder' that each of us carried in our hearts as children which sometimes evaporates with age. I want viewers to not only value and become conscious of the beauty that surrounds us, but also the beauty within."
