About the Artwork

A spin-off piece from my series Who We Are; a memory from 1999 carefully stored on a shelf in the back of my mind. I shared a two bedroom apartment in Marpole with my dear friend. Not everyone gets a great first apartment experience, but I sure did! We spent many an evening drinking wine and chatting until the wee hours of the morning. We would put on music and light candles, sometimes order pizza. Mood is everything for deep girl talk! One evening, we realized we only had these cute bear candles left, a gift from an ex-boyfriend perhaps. At first it was, "No! We Can't!", but she laughed and said, "Light 'em up!" Seeing their little heads melt was hilarious and a bit disturbing! We both had been through some heavy experiences recently, and a good mix of laughter and tears was a part of the healing process. Friendships like this are to be cherished.

From my ongoing series, “Who We Are”, an exploration of my unique perspective on being human, these deeply personal works convey the value in my life stories. Emblems representing my memories and experiences are carefully curated on shelves in the back of my mind; an invitation to self-reflection and remembrance.

"“I was born an Artist. Painting is something I’m driven to do. It’s a cathartic, healing process that helps me to connect with myself and others. When my brush hits the canvas the whole world melts away - it’s just my favourite music, the art and me.”"
