Inspired by a stay in a remote Irish cottage, this original oil painting portrays three white chickens standing steadfast in the damp, mist-laden air of the Emerald Isle. Each morning, awakened by the cockerel’s call, I encountered these feathered sentinels already at attention—alert, unimpressed by the drizzle, and quietly assessing another intruder into their world.
Their bright plumage cuts cleanly through the layered greens of the countryside, lending them an almost sculptural presence against the softened landscape. Curious yet guarded, there’s humor in their gaze, but also resolve, as though: three’s company here—any more would be an unnecessary disturbance, thank you very much.
