This piece reflects the kayaker's delight in knowing a favourite spot in all the changing light and shadow of a summer's day.
Working on board provides the opportunity to add layers of texture and subtle ridges and valleys in the paint. I apply my own gesso underlayer so that this element is random and adds the element of surprise.

Cassandra Arnold is a largely self-taught artist, with an expressive, high contrast, minimalist style, using acrylics, mixed media and collage in a variety of styles.
"“I love painting with acrylic as I have absolutely no patience with waiting for things to dry. I can do pretty much anything with it on canvas, paper, or board: watercolour effects, thick texture, bursts of colour. Allowing my own voice to come through is a delightful challenge."
