'and then it was autumn' is a continuation of my series in 'praise of older women' and it is a compilation of the various models who have posed for me in the past year. All of these women are over sixty years of age - in the autumn of their lives. The falling petals which fall out of the picture plane and mound onto the floor are symbolic of the aging of a woman's body and the ideals of youth that have to be let go of - much like falling leaves in autumn are a sign of the cycles of nature. The vivid colours portray the strong life force and the spirit that emanates from women as they get older. All of the women look unflinchingly out at the viewer, and into their future, their next season.
