Gordon D. Smith, Collapse
31" x 31", Oil on Canvas, Sold
Two equal and opposite forces collide. The structure weakens and the centre cannot hold. We witness a “Collapse”. I found the scene allegorical to all conflict. I was impressed by the sheer power and intensity of the players, and the resulting figures whose desperate resistance could not keep them being crushed in the centre of the pile. They are the collateral damage of violent exchange.
