Wendy Carmichael Bauld, AFCA, SCA, Imagine; after Michelangelo
24" x 48", Acrylic on Canvas, $1,695.00
IMAGINE; after Michelangelo, is a painting about my reaction to the way I feel about the recent ongoing devastating and horrific news of the death of George Floyd so I asked what can I do?Therefore, I decided to incorporate the very famous depiction of the Creation of Adam by Michelangelo in a very a representational way. The idea is to express for the world to recalculate or sort of jumpstart to a new beginning, by reaching out to each other as one humanity and also by the symbolism of giving life or breath to a new revolution. Race relations have come a long way but its time for a serious change. Through the use of the universal language of music and art, I also incorporated imagery of John Lennon and Bob Marley as a way to merge the meaning and profound words of some of their beautiful songs together into an art piece to help illustrate this message. There are many negative images in the media but for me personally, I want to send a message of hope. Proceeds from the sale of this painting will go to charity.
This piece will not be included in the physical exhibition on Granville Island but meets the quality standards of the FCA and is classified as, "Recognized Artwork."
